Dr. Ortiz featured in inaugural Public Humanities journal (Cambridge University Press)
The M.A. in Engaged & Public Humanities Program Director, Dr. Ricardo Ortiz, was a key contributor to an exciting new scholarly endeavor. Cambridge University Press launched a new academic journal this fall, entitled Public Humanities. Professor Ortiz was interviewed for the article How to Prepare Faculty and Graduate Students for Public Humanities Leadership, which appears in the first edition of the journal. The article draws on a Humanities career diversity research project to offer guidelines for faculty to better train graduate students in the Humanities for careers beyond the academy. This crucial research advances the efforts of the Public Humanities field to activate Humanities knowledge in creative, nontraditional ways for public benefit. The article is “another indication of the scope of the emergence of our field at a global level (that is the journal’s reach), and of the importance of our program in this movement,” according to Dr. Ortiz.
