Event! Finding the Freeman Family: Community Driven Public Humanities

Join us Friday, March 21st 9am-2pm in New North 408. Lunch Provided.

Melissa Dimond, President and Executive Director of Wellspring, a social services organization in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Roopika Risam MA ‘07, Associate Professor of Digital Humanities and Social Engagement at Dartmouth, will discuss their collaborative work to tell the story of the Freemans, a Black family in Gloucester who owned the house and property that houses Wellspring’s operations. They will discuss the origins of the collaboration, engaging the city’s stakeholders, challenging persistent local myths, and connecting with descendants of the Freemans who called the house their home.
