Accelerated B.A(B.S.)/M.A. Program

Georgetown University’s M.A. in Engaged & Public Humanities program offers an accelerated master’s option for Georgetown University undergraduates in any major in the College of Arts & Sciences or the School of Foreign Service.

This accelerated program is a chance to begin graduate coursework while completing your bachelor’s degree so you can finish the master’s degree within one post-graduate year, saving both time and tuition.

Who can apply for the B.A.(B.S.)/M.A. in Engaged & Public Humanities program

If you are a Georgetown junior in the College of Arts & Sciences or the School of Foreign Service, you can apply to the accelerated program. Any major may apply.

You must also have an overall GPA of 3.0. If you do not meet the GPA requirement and are interested in the program, please contact the M.A. in Engaged & Public Humanities program to discuss.

M.A. requirements

To earn the M.A. in Engaged & Public Humanities, you must complete 30 credits that include:

Counting credits towards your bachelor’s and master’s degrees

In the accelerated program, you can count two graduate-level engaged and public humanities core courses towards both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees, saving six credits of graduate tuition.

Fall semester, senior year

In the fall of your senior year, you may enroll in ENPH 5501: Introduction to the Public Humanities

Spring semester, senior year

In the spring of your senior year, you may enroll in either ENPH 5502: Writing and Communication for the Public Humanities or ENPH 5504: Digital Public Humanities.

Additionally, and in consultation with your undergraduate advising dean and the M.A. program director, you may apply up to two additional graduate-level courses worth six credits as electives toward the accelerated master’s degree, provided these courses exceed the requirements for your undergraduate degree. These extra courses and credits must go beyond the minimum 120 credits required for the bachelor’s degree and the requirements of your major. Because these courses are covered by standard undergraduate tuition, this option offers the opportunity to save on tuition for six additional graduate credits.
